Ryann continue his Little Dare Devil behavior throughout the class. Insisting his way, pushing tables and chairs away, running everywhere and refused to listen to the teachers. Phew... Getting him to sit down or even to carry him was a big task for me. To show me his disagreement, he will struggle his way through and sweep my hands away and sometimes will even push me away. Arghhhhh..... God give me the wisdom and patience to handle him.
Throughout the zoo bag time when we introduced the letter W, he wasn't listening at all. The only time when teacher Wei caught his attention was when she deliberately spills the water on the mat to introduce the word wet and wipe. He stood there and stone for a while before he tried to play with the water.
The only time he really did well was again flash cards time. So far Ryann is showing progress with the Zoo phonics program that I never really expect him to show results. The reason why I send him for GUG classes is because he enjoyed the music segment and it was his first exposure to other kids. He used to play on his own most of the time and doesn’t really maintain eye contact previously.
I have always felt that it is too early to introduce phonics as they are too young to understand but I was wrong. Ryann not only remembers the movements and for some letters he is able to say the phonics sound of the letter. Even teacher Russell and teacher Wei are impressed. I am really looking forward to the next term.
During the story telling and confidence builder segment, the teachers came up with very interesting and interactive ideas to illustrate the story and got all the kids very involved in finding the big bear. Ryann maybe ah beng but he don't dare to step in the container of green art paper (represents grass) and he don't dare to crawl through the tunnel. He kept stopping at the entrance but finally when he saw me at the other side of the tunnel, he started crawling right through it.
Last segment of music class by teacher Wei was quite fun too. Ryann was able to follow the actions of the songs like stand up, sit down, turn around, walk, run, up and down. These are great signs of interaction. Hopefully Ryann will start talking soon.
